There's a prize for this - read on.
I have no idea what my name means or where it comes from. My dad has the same name as me, and he was named after his father's friend. I've tried to find out where the name comes from and what it means, but have so far been unsuccessful. The closest I got was GRAYSON - THE SON OF A STEWARD. Whatever the fuck that means. Boring.
Anyway, if you can find out the true origin of my name and prove it, OR come up with a creative origin, I will mail you a hand drawn portrait of you based on your name.
Just leave your etymological findings by clicking on "COMMENTS" at the bottom of this post, then write in the comment box with your email address so that I can contact the winner.
There will be two winners - the first to correctly find the true meaning of my name, and the second who makes up the best fake meaning of my name.
Good place to start is
BEHIND THE NAME.
Contest closes April 8th.
If there's only one entry you'll get a drawing.
If there are no entries I'll just draw a picture of myself...alone...with no friends...and no name.

Elementary...
You must break it down into pieces...
Gray-Don
GRAY - KJV Dictionary defines as probably the name given to the Greeks, on account of their fair complexion compared with the Asiatics and Africans.
DON - Wikipedia defines it as usually related to Quixote de la Mancha. A fictional character.
Therefore, your ancestors were crazy Greek horsemen who had a thing for windmills.

RUSS and NATALIE* are the winners of the "Behind the Name" contest. The winners will be contacted so I can send them their drawings.
Natalie's posting was not visible because she couldn't get the comments box working on her computer, so she emailed me her explanation of my name:
The boy's name Graydon is of Old English origin. Possibly "son of the gray-haired one" or a place name: "gray settlement." Editor Graydon Carter.
Graydon has 1 variant form: Grayton.
-from www.thinkbabynames.com
-Though I have heard that before and don't know if it is completely accurate, Natalie was the first to respond to the contest with an attempt at a real answer.
THANKS TO ALL 3 OF YOU FOR WRITING.
I'm a loser.
