CATHARSIS
I'm finally interested in something again. The answering machine message you heard when this web page opened is from a series I just started working on. They are things I want to say but don't always have the outlet to say them. They are theatrical. Basically, they're poetry or prose I wrote, but I did not just want to post poetry. It looks so frigging tacky and boring. By making an audio clip of the words, I am far more able to get my point across, even if you have to listen to it a few times. All the voices are me, just manipulated to sound different.

Anyway, I'm not crazy, but these messages are. I hope to evolve this series. I hope you find it interesting. Don't be scared.

PS - If you want to replay the message or hear more, they're at the right-most side of the trail of images. Click on the brown and black rectangle and you will see text beneath it that reads "Fume and Pickle" and so on. Those are the answering machine messages. I'll work out better navigation soon.

When I got off the tour bus at SXSW this year, in was about 10am and we had stopped at the courtyard where Metric would be playing later that day, to unload their gear. Anyway, it was never my job to unload gear, so I stepped off the bus, still half asleep and wondered into the courtyard and there was Wayne Coyne from the Flaming Lips giving a talk about the making of their new album. During that talk he played various crazy answering machine message he had received and kept over the years and talked about how he incorporated them into the new Flaming Lips album. I don't really know what my point to this story is... Maybe Graydon is the next Wayne Coyne?
